The community that gathers as Vashon Presbyterian Church (VPC) embraces the joy of belonging to God and belonging to each other and the community around us. We belong to the Seattle Presbytery of the Presbyterian Church USA. We welcome you, just as you are! Your faith, doubts, questions, and curiosity are welcome here and matter to us. We worship in person and on Zoom (https://zoom.us/j/442169680) on Sundays at 10 am. We invite you to join us!

Our music is a shared gift, with a variety of musicians, and we welcome anyone to participate. Check out our past sermons from Zoom here.

What should I wear?

Clothes! But seriously, wear what makes you most comfortable. You’ll see jeans and shirts on some and dresses or slacks on others. You’re welcome in whatever works for you.

What about communion? What is it? How do I know how to do it?

At Vashon Presbyterian Church, all are welcome to take communion.Holy Communion is celebrated monthly most of the year as well as weekly in the season right before Christmas (called Advent) and the season before Easter (called Lent). It’s a simple meal that helps us to remember the meal Jesus shared with his disciples the night before he died. It reminds us that he not only loved his friends that night but he loves us today. We celebrate the meal with a small piece of bread and a little cup of grape juice. All are welcome, adults and children alike. During that part of our service, you are welcome to come down to the front, take the bread and juice, and then eat them back in your seat. If you choose not to participate, that’s okay too. Do what feels best for you at all times.

Are kids welcome?

Heck yes! We have an area in the back just for them, complete with books and a Brio table. At VPC, we celebrate joyful noises and kids make the best! So, let them be themselves. For older kids and teens, we have a dedicated VPC Youth Room. Contact Pastor Leigh if your young person might be interested in our youth group or confirmation.

What do you believe?

We believe that all human beings are created in the Image of God — including YOU!LOTS of things! The most important things we believe are found in scripture. We believe that all human beings are created in the Image of God — including YOU! In other words, we believe that all human beings have sacred worth and matter to God and to us.

We believe and know that we all make mistakes in life and that God forgives us anytime we ask.

We believe in Jesus, God’s own son. We believe he lived his earthly life in the way in which God desires for us all to live. He crossed boundaries and helped those on the margins. He spoke up for justice and was kind and loving to all people. We believe that his life is the example we should follow.

And we are still learning and growing as people of God, trying to love radically and generously, just like Jesus did. We get there sometimes, and other times we fall short. We believe our call is to keep trying because God loves the world, and we want to love others well too. This is some of what we believe. If you want to know more, Pastor Leigh is always glad to talk.

What other groups share the building with you?

We love sharing our space with the community. The groups that meet here are doing some pretty amazing things! Some groups educate and provide safe space for kids. (We love kids, too!) Some groups take folks who are hurting from addiction and provide healing space. (We admire their work!) Some groups provide music for the community. (We are big music fans, too!)

What all of these groups have in common is that they make life better; they add to the goodness in the world. Being in a community with them makes us all better. Learn more about our Community Partnerships.
