Looking toward Sunday…
This week we will pick back up with Jesus on the Level Place, the Plain, right after the blessings and woes. It’s found in Luke 6:27-36. I’d invite you to read through it a couple of times. The first time you read through it let it just be something familiar that you have heard before, turning the other cheek, praying for your enemies. But the second or third time you read it, try and think about the places and people in life where you are challenged, sometimes even in your own family. Why is it hard? What holds you back? How do you feel? And then I would like to invite you to think about the nature of God’s mercy for you. What does it feel like to know that you have God’s mercy all the time, no matter what? In v. 36, Jesus says, “Be merciful, just as your Father is merciful.” How does it feel to you to think about showing mercy to others, even those that challenge you? How does it feel to think about showing that mercy like God shows it to you, all the time, no matter what?
I’d be interested to know what bubbles up for you as you work through those questions and others that come to you in your reading. I’m always interested to know what’s coming up for you in general. And I’m here any time you just want to check in.
Excited to be together on Sunday with you!
Where are the wise men now?
Do you remember on Epiphany when we read that the wise men, the magi, went back “by another way?” When we packed up the nativity sets that Sunday afternoon, we left one set of wise men out by intention. We left them out to remind ourselves that we are call to go through our journeys after encountering Jesus, “by another way” and we’re keeping our three friends as a visible reminder of that call. So, look around the church for the wise men, sometimes they may be together, sometimes each on their own journeys, but you’ll find them if you look for them. And don’t be afraid to move them around yourself. Let’s keep them moving, and us paying attention to where they, and we, land in this journey of following the One.
